The story
John Hodgins and his wife Amelia took out a mortgage of $800 to purchase this property in 1897 and in 1949, left the property to daughter, Mildred (McFalls) and later, in 1979, Mildred transferred it to her two sons: John Kenneth and Laurence Albert McFalls. Jonathan, son of Laurence and Elisabeth McFalls, now lives on this farm and he and his father currently operate a successful cow/calf operation. The farm has always had livestock on it.
This fourth generation farm, over the years, has grown from a ‘Horse and Buggy’ 10-acre farm to the current 80 tillable acre farm which provides ample income for Jonathan and his parents.
Choosing a quilt block design that suited Jonathan and his parents was indeed a challenge. Laurence wanted a pattern that his mother had quilted years earlier and his wife, Elisabeth wanted one that was appealing and a design they would not tire of; hence “Mothers Choice” was selected!
