The story

“Doctor” John Troyer (1753-1842) was a Tunker – a Baptist religion offshoot – from Pennsylvania who settled on the flats below this property in 1793. He was an herbalist, diviner, hunter, farmer and miller whose superstitions and fear of witches made him one of the area’s best known pioneers. He is buried on this land with his wife Sophronia, their son Michael, and his family.
