The story

The original Empey farm was purchased by William and Christena (Tena) Empey in 1956. In 1977 they started thinking about their retirement years and made plans to build a log cabin on a 10 acre parcel of the farm. Unfortunately Bill Empey Sr. never saw the completion of his dream home. After Bill Empey Sr. passing in 1980, Tena completed the log house and moved from the home farm to the log house in early 1980’s. One of her accomplishments that she was very proud of was helping to construct the stone chimney on the north end of the log house. She continued to live on this property until her move to a retirement home in 2011, at which time the 10 acre parcel was purchased by her son Ken Empey and his wife Brenda. The barn quilt was made as a tribute to Tena Empey and also to celebrate Canada’s 150th. Tena was an avid quilter and some of the last quilts that she completed for grand children were similiar to this Black and White log cabin pattern.
