Grandpa’s Carpenter Wheel
The story
Barns and quilts certainly go together on our farm! Phyllis Mitchell, fiddler, B&B hostess and quilt painter extraordinaire, farmed here with her husband, Emerson, for most of their 65 years of marriage. Phyllis painted on quilt tops, tablecloths and pillowcases with Cameo paints and taught many others to paint over the years. The carpenter’s wheel design was chosen to honour Wilmer Cuthill, a carpenter and the grandfather of current owner, Neil Mitchell, whose affinity for John Deere farm equipment made the colour choice easy! Wilmer and Kathleen Cuthill were the first in the family to farm here when they purchased the from the Murray family in 1943. They lived there until 1956, when their daughter Phyllis and her husband Emerson moved from the tenth of Grey to take over the farm. Neil and Marie Mitchel and their children Emily, Sean, Sarah and Claire have lived here since 200
