The story

When I first heard of the IPM 2017 idea to add Barn Quilts to their endeavours I wanted to take part in this County wide initiative. The quilt block is a nine patch, which is probably the most commonly used type of block when quilting with fabric. Variations can be achieved by the placement of the patches and the colours that are chosen. The stars were added above the block because of a personal interest. We felt that the design needed to be appropriate for the age of the barn and that is why we chose a traditional quilt block pattern. It is mounted on a barn on a farm that we purchased from Gordon and Jean Munn in 1989. Gordon was Bill’s uncle who farmed with his wife Jean for many years. The barn interests lots of people as we have had various requests over the years to use it as a backdrop for family and wedding pictures. Our children Ryan ( Terri, Owen and Adam) , Kevin ( Stefani) , and Carol-Anne ( Alex) have always had an interest in the barn for various reasons. Some of the inside barn boards have been used in their home decor. It was a fun project – we looked up information on the internet and also visited Karen and Fred Uhler for some tips. We met Karen and Fred back when we worked with them on the Beautification Committee for IPM 1999. We look forward to viewing everyone’s barn quilts to see the various designs and colours that have been chosen by the owners.
